Let Us C 8/E (with CD-ROM) (Computer Science)(Engineering) (Computer Science) ebook for free download.

Considered to be one of the best-selling programming books ever written, the eighth edition has now been edited, revised, and updated. A CD-ROM with demos, code, compiler, executables, and MATLAB examples has been added to the book. Simplicity and an easy narration style are the hallmarks of the book, which have made its previous seven editions immensely successful. Today s C programmer (still the language of choice in science, engineering, game programming and for handheld devices) has to master the complexities of the language and contend with its usage in environments like Windows, Linux, and for the Internet. This book covers these three aspects of C programming and doesn t assume any programming background. It begins with the basics and steadily builds the pace, so the reader finds it easy to handle more complicated topics later. This popular author has crafted hundreds of excellent programming examples and exercises for every aspect of C programming. ++++Features +Self-study format provides hundreds of step by step examples and exercises + Assumes no programming knowledge; starts with the basics and progresses to more difficult topics +Includes a CD-ROM with demos, code, compiler, executables, and MATLAB examples +Covers the latest programming techniques for Windows, Linux, and the Internet ++++++Selected Topics Traditional C Programming; Pointers; Complete Build Process; Low-level File I/O; Structures, Unions, Bit-fields; Bitwise Operators. Stroke Prevention

Stroke Prevention

Stroke Prevention ebook for free download.

The treatment of stroke remains ineffective, and prevention is the key issue for this common disease. Norris and Hachinski have recruited an international group of experts to provide a comprehensive, critical review of the evidence on the primary and secondary prevention of cerebrovascular disease and to translate this information into clinical practice. The authors present fresh information on established risk factors such as atrial fibrillation, smoking and hypertension and on new risk factors such as homocysteinemia and the paradoxical role of alcohol. They cover the protective effects of lifestyle changes, diet, exercise, and estrogen. Under secondary prevention, they deal with aspirin, antiplatelet therapy, surgical measures to prevent stroke, angioplasty and stenting, and the importance of cardiac anomalies increasingly revealed by high-definition imaging. While endarterectomy remains controversial for asymptomatic carotid stenosis, it has been clearly defined as the single most effective strategy in secondary prevention. In a concluding section that will be particularly valuable to clinical readers, the authors provide a lucid, balanced discussion of how the findings from clinical trials, where patients are highly selected, closely monitored, and given the highest standard of care, can be effectively applied in the everyday practice of medicine.

Design for Emergence: Collaborative Social Play with Online and Location-Based Media, Volume 153 Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications

Design for Emergence: Collaborative Social Play with Online and Location-Based Media, Volume 153 Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications

Design for Emergence: Collaborative Social Play with Online and Location-Based Media, Volume 153 Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and Applications ebook for free download.

Design for Emergence investigates spontaneous, unpredictable uses of technology that are driven by social contexts and collaborative processes, based on our ability to communicate our presence, both virtual and physical, in symbolic ways. In light of the fact that social dynamics and unexpected uses of technology can inspire innovation, this book proposes a research model of design for emergence, focusing on emergent phenomena as part of an iterative design process. By providing playful, technology-mediated experiences with minimal structure, unpredictable user behaviors can emerge through exploration, resulting in a richer and more complex, social experience. The research methodology is practice-based; two interactive prototypes were designed, implemented and evaluated in different contexts: an online multiplayer BumperCar game and a wireless, location-based urban game of 'tag', called CitiTag. User studies showed that collaborative, spontaneous play can enhance the sense of social participation in a group activity. Collective and individual behaviors and creative uses of technology emerged from a simply designed application based on symbolic presence, both in the virtual and the physical world. CitiTag experiments showed that virtual elements in a mixed reality game can instigate novel experiences in the context of our everyday physical and social environment, with often unexpected results. The observed emergent behaviors are personal and collective extensions of the virtual experience in the real world. The book concludes with a positive view of ubiquitous and social computing, in which the virtual world becomes a 'first class citizen' rather than a substitute for the real world, creating new situations and engaging experiences in the setting of our daily life that were not possible before.

Product Description
Surveying the technologies used to satisfy the world's demand for open, efficient, and clean electricity, Synchronous Generators provides an in-depth examination of synchronous generators for both stand-alone and grid-connected applications. Part of The Electric Generators Handbook, Two-Volume Set, this book offers authoritative, tightly focused treatment of the topologies, steady state and transients modeling, performance, control, design, and testing of stand-alone and grid-connected generators in synchronous operation. Synchronous Generators offers a thorough introduction to electrical energy and electricity generation, including the basic principles of electric generators. The book devotes a chapter to the most representative prime mover models for transients used in active control of various generators. Then, individual chapters explore the topologies and steady state of large and medium-power synchronous generators; modeling and transients; control in power systems; design, including simple cases; and testing. Numerous examples, sample results, and illustrations highlight the concepts. The promise of renewable, sustainable energy rests on our ability to design innovative power systems that are able to harness energy from a variety of sources. Synchronous Generators supplies the tools necessary to design, validate, and deploy the right power generation technologies to fulfill tomorrow's complex energy needs.
